The members of St. Croix Alumnae Chapter proudly celebrate Soror Clema Lewis, who is now known as our devastating, groundbreaking Soror, Dr. Clema S. Lewis. Dr. Lewis has a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Illinois State University, a master’s in counseling from the University of Phoenix, and a PhD. in Humane Letters from the University of the Virgin Islands. Dr. Clema S. Lewis is the Executive Director of the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix and has been with the agency since 1982. She has over 40 years of experience in advocating for victims of crime. Dr. Lewis volunteered as an advocate and then assumed the positions of Chairperson of Advocates, Coordinator of Training and Support Groups, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Supervisor of the Summer Staff and Co-Director of Women's Coalition of St. Croix.

Dr. Lewis has worked as a social worker at the Youth Rehabilitation Center and a counselor at the Department of Education. Dr. Lewis currently serves on numerous boards, community, and national affiliations. She is the Co-Chairperson for the VI Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counsel, Chairperson of the St. Croix Child Abuse and Neglect Task Force, local and member of the VI Interstate Compact Board, Human Services Research Partnerships with UVI and the Eastern Regional Human Trafficking Work Group. Ms. Lewis is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. St. Croix Alumnae Chapter, and appointed to the Commission on Aging, member of VI Housing Authority Partnership group, and a member of Altona Baptist church for over 30 years.

Dr. Lewis was initiated in the St. Croix Alumnae Chapter in April 1987. She has held several leadership positions within the chapter which includes Chapter President and Vice President, Social Action Committee Chairperson, Hospitality Committee Chairperson, Chapter Mediator, Minerva Circle Leader, Jabberwock Committee Member, Sickle Cell Committee Member, and Poinsettia Ball Committee member. Over the course of years Dr. Lewis was honored by the St. Croix Alumnae Chapter for her esteem work in the community. Dr. Lewis represented the chapter in the Eastern Region for Human Trafficking in the Virgin Islands and she was the chapter’s representative at the Virgin Islands Legislature on a proposed bill on Human Trafficking.

She has received numerous awards and honors for accomplishments, Inductee to the VI Women Hall of Fame, Visionary Award from the National Sexual Assault Resource Center. “I am Proud” award from the Hispanic Community, first inductee in the 7 women 7 purposes for her hard work in Social Justice, by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights., and she received her Honorary PhD, from the University of the Virgin Islands in May 2023

Dr. Lewis has chosen to live her life in the pursuit of justice for those who are marginalized in our society, and truly believes she is a better person because of the she has touched and changed on St. Croix. Soror Lewis, we salute you and congratulate you on your accomplishments throughout the years.
